Hi, guys, this is Ngiam Tee Ee, I've not been writing blogs since 2016. So any grammar or structures mistakes please be considerate ya. So as the title goes, since last June until September 2017, I joined a program called CIEE, which is an international organization, which you can google it up. (I'll put the links down below)
Through that program, which is outside of my universities of course, I've been able to work and lived in the United States for about 3 months. So through my time working there as a Food & Beverage Associates at a theme park called "Cedar Point", which located in Sandusky, Ohio. So, I'm not going to talk too much about it and let's get to what the title says! Here I'm going to share with you 5 Steps on how my process of being through that journey.
1) Find a local agency
Sure CIEE is an agency of course, but that is an international large agency which deals with many countries, you need to find a local agency like SpeedWings or Out of the Box (OOTB) to help you the process smoothly (that's what I did). Sure, there are people who are capable of doing it themselves without these agencies, but I'm not one of them, which is sad. Because one of the huge sums of your America experience is going to spend on this part.
2) Confirm semester break with your Universities/ College
Because this is the time where you will spend your semester break time in the States and work. So, what I do is I'll double confirm with my faculty/ schools/ college/ when is my long semester holiday starts actually.
3) Find a job that matches your semester break
There are many employer which hires people in a certain period of time. Let's say McDonalds's only hires people starts from May 1st until June 1st, but your semester break only starts late at June. So McDonald's isn't going to be your choice after all. What I'm looking for is search for a job which matches my semester break period, after all, the agency will provide the best employer which suits you best, so don't worry, just have fun.
4) Check accommodation/ housing & flights
So after all the consideration of preparation and planning, you have decided to work with an employer, which let's say one of the many restaurants in New York. If that's the case what I'll do is I need to know where my housing location is? Is it near to my working location? Is it walking distance, or miles away? Is the housing cost affordable? and so on. The next thing what I'll do is check the airport of your destination from arrival of your landing in the USA to the last day you're going to leave the country. In my situation, my round-trip are both from the same destination, which is (JFK) airport in New York. You can check GoogleFlights and CheapFlights for best air-fares.
5) Pack your bags & GO!
If you're done with all the steps above, your next steps is to pack your bags and just go! Leave everything behind! Trust me, I have had the time of my life there, the amazing experience, the things I've been to, the people I've met, the process I've been to, the lessons and insights to improve myself better, it's just wonderful. As anyone who travels will also feels the same way, it's not how far your travelling journey is, it's the mysterious and unknown which you'll yet discover as you go.
So that's it I'm going to leave you guys with this, although it looks simple enough, but there are more to it of course. But these are the 5 fundamentals steps, the basic essential stuff. The thing is, we need to make things simple in order to make it achievable, if it's too complex like 5 pages essay long, nobody would motivated to go through it and done it. Honestly. it also doesn't took me 3 hours to write it, but 30 minutes to an hour max to get the post done.
